The Zoo

Basic facts refiection

This term I think I have not achieved my goal of moving off 19 because I have to learn my 6,7,8 times table.

Next term I aim to know my 6,7,8 times tables to help me get off brick 19 and to attain brick 20 or 21. The steps I will take to help me learn my timetables: practice with my siblings every day after school and play math games.

HOW TO MAKE A TAONGA PUORO

 HOW TO MAKE TAONGA PUORO

Introduction

“ERRRRRRRRRRRRR”and there goes the Taonga Puoro. They were traditionally used by native Maori people for calming sick pupil down and sending messages. My ukutaangi looks like a round ball; when it is blown with a hard breathe the sound is loud and high-pitched  . I am going to explain how to make Taonga Puoro.God commands “ You can do all things through me” and it sounds like a high pitched noise.

Steps to Make it

Firstly, you have to get a block of clay. Later on you cut it into two paces. After that you make those two pieces of clay into round balls then put your thumb in the center of the clay and use your index finger and then make a round bowl. After that you get a toothpick, then you scratch lines on the edge of the round bowls, then you put them together and smage the line out. Later on you put your pinky in the middle of the ball and round the inside of the ball and make it smooth. Later on you make a volcano shape then flatten it out.

Making music

Secondly, how to make music so firstly you have to wait for it to dry. Later on how to blow it, you have to blow half of your breath out and the other inside of your Taonga puoro. After that you will hear a high pitched noise and that's when you can blow it.

Designing your Taonga Puoro

After you have done all the steps, making music, after all of those things you have to design it and make it look good. You can do maori patterns ,lines, you can come up with heaps of ideas.

Summary

Lastly, we learnt how to make a beautiful puoro with our class. It was fun and if you make one, enjoy it and teach other people how to make them so they can teach other people too. Have a great time with your traditional taonga puoro.
